If I wasn't a Surveyor that understood the difference between "coordinates" and "land movement" and "property boundaries" then I would probably interpret this report Stuff 26-Oct-2017 differently.
I would be led to believe that coordinates define property boundaries and that these redefined property boundaries are checked against aerial imagery for correctness and that a mathematical model is used to sort it all out.
(Is this another missed opportunity for the Survey Profession to promote the "learnings" of the Canterbury Earthquakes and publish a press release that incorporates this coordinate overhaul report but also provides additional supporting information about boundary definitions post earthquake?)
