Remember when Surveyors were involved in Town Planning, or when Surveyors had some input into the layout of new towns - including the commercial centres?
There is no mention of any 'surveyor' input in this article Business Day 21-March-2018 about the re-design of the Cromwell Town Centre - but it may be early days. In any event, are there many/any Land Surveyors in the planning arena these days?
The rebuff regarding the Ministry of Works design of the initial township may be a little condescending - the good 'ol MoW would have been working to a restricted government brief in the 1980's, and the decision makers at that time probably had little idea that Cromwell would develop into the growing regional centre that it is (only just) now becoming.
The questions now are: - Is it going to be a silk purse/sows ear scenario? or - Is this going to be sorted using best practice town planning principles with a touch of forward-thinking innovation?
