OK, so this isn't really about "cadastral surveying" but it is a cool story nevertheless - The Press - 15-May-2018 It will involve navigation work; positioning calculations, and looking for something old.... It describes a UC project that is undertaking a sea-ice survey in the Weddell Sea including a search for a spectacular carrot - the "Endurance". The Endurance was a three-masted barquentine used in Shackleton's Imperial Trans-Antarctic Expedition 1915, that was crushed and sank after many days being trapped in the sea-ice. And so began one of the truly great survival stories of Shackleton and his crew - which included Tom Crean (an unsung hero) and Frank Worsley, a New Zealander who managed to navigate the whole crew in three small boats across the dangerous Southern Ocean to Elephant Island, and thence to South Georgia. (Recommended reading - just Google "Endurance" and take your pick of the many accounts of the journey). I'll look forward to hearing about their success (or otherwise), and the details of their surveying work....
