I note the suggested guidelines in a recent LINZ LANDWRAP article regarding capturing referenced surveys and bearing corrections in the survey header. I also note that guideline Option 2. is in partial contradiction to Rule 9.1(a). and that Option 3. is only available to some surveyors. Option 1., in my view, has as much risk to following surveyors and the cadastre, as any other alternative. I have been concerned for many years that some surveyors/LINZ have a simplistic approach to application of bearing corrections. The survey header is just a cue. The survey report is indeed the place where bearing corrections should be evaluated and documented. I find it ironic 17 years after the introduction of Landonline (when surveyors have had to wrestle with this issue and come to their individual ways of handling it, and when it will be replaced in 3? years), that such a guideline is issued, particularly when LINZ refuses to acknowledge that a rule for Good Survey Practice is required.
