Not for the first time, the famous Baldwin Street in North Dunedin - famed for being "The Steepest Street in the World" - has a challenger in Wales... Stuff - 9-Jan-2019As usual, it will boil down to the precise measurements of a Surveyor to determine the elevation change(s) over the horizontal distance(s) and thus calculate the gradient(s). The suggested instrument that will be used to measure the Welsh "Challenger" street is a Trimble GeoXH 6000. Although I have not had the pleasure of using this instrument, from the data sheet I hope they do not rely on the real-time accuracy to base their results (10cm +1ppm) - but ensure they post-process at least 45min of captured data to at least get to the 1cm + 2ppm accuracy indicated..... 10cm here and there could make a considerable difference!! {And why do I recall a re-survey of Baldwin Street recently (=last few years) where they discovered that the posted gradient was a little misleading....?}

And the final (perhaps) chapter to the steepest street challenge story. Well done to Toby Stoff and his team for pursuing this matter across the other side of the world - in order to uphold the honor of Baldwin Street and North Dunedin.... NZ Herald: 8 Nov-2019
