Last weekend, the NZ Government "announced" support funding investment for the investigation (with Australia) of implementing a SBAS for the country. TVNZ News:- 23-June-2019This follows trials over the last 2 years - as previously reported by LINZ: LINZ Website: Nov-2017All very nice for those users of global positioning systems who want greater accuracy. But, can someone please tell me how the increase in accuracy from 5-10metres down to 10centimetres will really help with (say) a Rescue Pilot hovering retrieving a lost or injured tramper?

The proposed SBAS for Australia/NZ has passed some more approval hurdles and tender information is out. See LINZ News: 16-March-2020And a trendy sounding acronym has been settled for it: SPAN = Southern Positioning Augmentation Network.
