A simple way to depict the "before' and "after" of urban development in Auckland: Stuff: 8-Sept-2019
However, the "before" would probably be better called "early stage".... The true "before" would be an image showing the sites a couple of years earlier still - showing the open space greenfields, farmland, orchards, parks, bush, forestry, refuse areas etc.... (And aren't the comments placed on such reports interesting. The keyboard warriors have a field day - everything from political interference; Auckland bashing; too much sprawl; too little open space; Council ineptitude; and even NZ Defence Force inadequacies!)

'Long overdue': New rules to protect NZ's most-productive farmland welcomedStuff - Environment: 19-Sept-2022Proponents are thrilled New Zealand’s highly productive food-growing land will finally be protected from “urban sprawl”, with nationally important regions like Canterbury already carved up by decades of development. On Sunday, the Government released new rules to enhance protections for the country’s most productive land, in a bid to provide security for domestic food supply and primary exports. The National Policy Statement for Highly Productive Land (NPS-HPL) will protect land from inappropriate subdivision, use and development, Environment Minister David Parker said. “We need to house our people and to feed them too. Our cities and towns need to grow but not at the expense of the land that’s best suited to grow our food.” Thought:-- closing the gate after the horse has boltedEnvironment: Shielding prime horticultural land from subdivisionsRNZ National: 19-Sept-2022Interview with Environment Minister David Parker.
