This news item Coastal Science - Stuff 27 Aug 2015 is an editorial from The Press that reports on a topical issue that has been around for a while - sea-level rise and its impact on coastal residential properties.
Of course the basis for any decision making rests with the validity and integrity of elevation data that is used in the modelling. A benchmark network that encompasses the area under study is essential. This must also be directly connected to the established local datum to be of any value, so that the relationship with the local tidal reference marks are accurately known.
It is only then that subsequent mass data/information - such as LiDAR - can be used to provide accurate information for the decision makers.
