Is this just a Canterbury thing? Stuff - The Press: 16-July-2020 - Ryman Healthcare - Park Terrace, ChristchurchHurunui District Council - Applications of Interest: Amberley Retirement Village (Property Ventures)I know that "Boomers" have been transitioning into their latter years for some time now (confession - I am one - just) so the growth and demand for retirement type complexes is the obvious net result. But the recent announcement of two MAJOR complexes in Christchurch and Amberley (~50km north of Chch) is a clear signal that the demand has exploded. Again - any opponents will be accused of NIMBY'ism - and the loudest opponents will be the neighbours. But a word of caution - especially if your adjoining property has been recently developed (say in the last 20-odd years) and the developer then is still involved now .... check any land covenant fine print on your title that says: “ The Grantee will not object to any further development or subdivision undertaken by the Grantor either on the grantor’s own account or any development or subdivision in which the Grantor has an interest”
