It's been talked about for a long time with little action but is this the step that will be the start of the end for the RMA 1991. It will be interesting to see the implications for surveying and where subdivision and development fall into the new pieces of legislation proposed and whether what we currently know as 'landuse' consents will all fall under the same umbrella. These are ambitious timeframes based on the general speed of government. It will be interesting to watch this space. Government to scrap 30 year old RMA

Totally agree Mr Geddes. And why is the cynic in me thinking that we should be careful what we wish for. The old RMA 1991 may have been flawed, but I am not convinced that a three-prong legislation replacement will be/can be any better. I hope I am wrong. (And at least we should have some comfort in knowing that this legislation drafting will not be a drawn out process like to Cadastral Rules procrastination is...) We should think about buckling in for rounds of consultation and submissions and workshops and presentations. Oh joy...
