Well, not really a dispute that has gone on for 140 years, but a dispute that has used 140 year old land records to support a question of land rights. See Stuff - 15 May 2016.
Once again, narry a mention of a Professional Land Surveyor's opinion, but definitely a resort to a Legal view and High Court decision. Now the parties are in mediation. So does this confirm that the Court is the only true arbiter of land definition....

There is clearly at least a bit more to this story than is being reported, given that the houses are being built on part of the land that is shown in the picture as 59 St George's Bay Road - ie that the Stuff article would have you believe belongs to the aggrieved owner of the Villa. A cursory glance at LDS appears to suggest some sort of cross-lease or UT arrangement. Any disinterested Auckland surveyor care to enlighten us?
