A potential resource for Canterbury Surveyors -although potentially useful for others as well...
New Zealand Geotechnical Database: www.nzgd.org.nz
MBIE, with the support of EQC, is pleased to announce the New Zealand Geotechnical Database (NZGD) has now gone live. This builds on the very successful Canterbury Geotechnical Database (CGD).
Users will note that the main changes between the CGD and the NZGD are:
1. the option to now also use a web based GIS viewer that has been utilised on the Auckland Geotechnical Database- the Google Earth viewing options remains.
2. the ability to view, upload and download geotechnical data anywhere in NZ
3. updated terms of use to bring it in line with current government requirements
Please use the NZGD user guide to familiarise yourself with the new map viewer features before contacting us.
Note, the Auckland Geotechnical Database (AGD) will remain live for the next one to two weeks at which point the AGD data will be transitioned to the NZGD. Presently the AGD data is not on the NZGD. AGD users will need to re-register for the NZGD but can do this in advance of the transition – we apologise in advance for any inconvenience this may cause.
Users’ support for the CGD and AGD has been instrumental in making the NZGD happen and this is gratefully acknowledged. As new data is progressively added to the NZGD, we look forward to the same benefits that the CGD provides to the Canterbury rebuild applying nationally.
We welcome any feedback on the new system. Any feedback is best emailed to support@nzgd.org.nz.
