Farmer claims council blocked only access to part of his land with a cell tower Stuff - National: 30-August-2022A West Auckland farmer says the Rural Connectivity Group has blocked access to part of his land by constructing a cell phone tower in front of his gate. Greg Jonkers, who owns Jonkers farm in Waitākere, said Auckland Council gave consent for a cell phone mast to be built in the middle of the only legal access way he has to part of his farm. Jonkers said the gateway had been there since 1939 and contractors had now dug a big hole right in front of it.

'Bloody ugly' cell tower springs up 'overnight' in Auckland's Mission BayStuff - National (Auckland): 15-July-2023Residents of Auckland’s eastern suburbs have been left shocked by an “eyesore” of a cell tower that seemingly sprung up “overnight” in Mission Bay, and, worst of all, they have no recourse to challenge it. “It’s bloody ugly. They couldn’t find a worse place to put it unless they put it beside the fountain. Whoever approved this needs to be fired asap,” a member of the local resident association said on social media. Another resident called the situation a 101 course in how to ruin a seaside suburb. Perhaps another classic NIMBY response - But what if the Mission Bay locals had really poor cell phone coverage and this location was the only spot to emplace a tower to provider sufficient service? What would the Bay locals do at their local seaside cafe whilst they await their double-decaf-trim-soy lattes and cannot update their Instagram or Threads feeds, nor scan the Buzzfeed or Spinoff posts on their Apple iPhone15 because of limited inter-web access? Should the provider design a cell tower that resembles a pohutukawa tree?
((Apologies to any and all ICS Members living in Mission Bay... ))
