There is an interesting article in the latest Popular Mechanics Magazine about the preservation of the monuments on the Mason-Dixon line. Volunteer surveyors have worked since 1990 finding and cataloguing the remaining stones that mark the boundary with the hope that they can officical recognised as being of historical importance. The Mason-Dixon line is iconic in the history of the USA being the demarkation between the laws of slavery in the early 1800s. It seems strange that such an important historical artifact has not previously had any national protection. The magazine doesn't seem to be online so if you want to read it you may have to buy a copy or be really old-fashioned and visit the library. Our library provides copies on-line. Attachments:
