The on-going conflict between residential development and "best-use" (?!) of non-residential land.... They thought they were buying homes next to a racecourse. Now it's set to become a quarry, with 250 truck movements a day. Neighbours of the proposed quarry at Rangiora Racecourse are mounting their opposition, with more than 40 people attending a meeting on Monday to discuss the impact of dust on their neighbourhood. Further meetings are planned to discuss noise and submission-writing. The closest houses are about 200 metres from the racecourse boundary, but the quarry plans were not made public until recently – after a complete application was made to the local council.
