Auckland's $30m road cone army, angry commuter diagnosed with 'PTSD symptoms'Stuff - National: 22-Oct-2022An Auckland commuter says he’s been driven round the bend by road cones, to the degree it’s affected his health. Electrician Greg Cramond commutes from Mangawhai, north of Auckland, and has to drive all across the city to jobs sites. “It’s apocalyptic. Everywhere you go, there’s way too many traffic cones. I get that it's a safety thing, but why do they stay delaying traffic even when no-one is there doing work?” [Welcome to our post-earthquake world Auckland.... from fellow Orange-Cone-Overloaded-Christchurch.... ]

The road cones that ruined Christmas and increased Auckland house prices Stuff - National: 13-Nov-2022It’s no secret that Auckland motorists have their gripes about the sea of orange that engulfs the city’s streets, but it turns out there’s also big money to be made in the road cone industry. Auckland developer Kirsty Merriman was shocked recently when she asked how much it would cost to close the road shoulder of a quiet cul-de-sac. The price tag: $2000 a day. The steep charge included road cones – lots of road cones – so many road cones, in fact, that it also included two workers to make sure drivers were able to negotiate the road cones.

Road cone rage: 'It's bedlam, someone's going to get killed'Stuff - Bay of Plenty: 18-Nov-2022‘Bedlam’ is how one business owner described the ongoing roadworks in Tauranga, with ‘honking horns’, long jams, near misses and crashes as frustration rises in the city that one critic said has more road cones than the rest of the motu put together. Security staff have been brought in to prevent verbal and physical abuse of road workers by a community increasingly frustrated at Tauranga’s traffic woes.
