Environmentalists Desperate to buy Riverbank Property from Meat ProcessorsStuff - Environment: 13-Dec-2022Environmentalists in Tūākau are desperate to buy five acres on the Waikato River before another factory snaps it up. The property at 22 Lapwood Rd is owned by Tuakau Proteins Limited (TPL), which has been all but defunct since March 2021 after a massive fire took out its meat processing factory. The 5.5 acres across three titles are up for sale by tender, closing on December 16, as they are “surplus to Vendor’s needs”, the advertisement says. But Environment Action Tuakau wants the sale postponed until local and regional councils can consider taking the land on and helping convert it into public gardens and wetlands.
