Sam Neill and Grahame Sydney oppose 60,000 pine tree plantation on 'exceptional landscape' Stuff - Environment: 15-Dec-2022Two of Central Otago’s most prominent residents have joined the battle against a farmer’s plans to plant pine trees on a remote station. Sir Sam Neill and Sir Grahame Sydney are amongst 37 people or organisations who submitted against the proposal to plant 66 hectares of pine trees on the Lammermoor Station property. It would involve about 60,000 trees in a gully and would be registered in the New Zealand Emissions Trading Scheme and used for carbon sequestration. Three submissions in support of the plan and three neutral submissions were received by the Central Otago District Council in a publicly notified resource consent process.
