However, some residents have argued that their “rural village” was not the right place for such development, and a number of organisations were opposed on environmental grounds. Porirua City Council planners proposed to rezone areas within 800 metres of all train stations in Porirua to enable buildings up to six storeys (22 metres) high as part of new planning rules directed by the National Policy Statement on Urban Development (NPS-UD).
