Intensive social housing proposal may be withdrawn after residents opposition Stuff - National: 31-May-2023A group of residents appears to have won their campaign against an intensive housing development in their suburb, with indications that a resource consent application may be withdrawn. The residents were opposed to a proposal to build 10 dwellings including four two-storey units in place of two houses on Ada Street in Hastings. A resource consent application for the proposal was lodged with Hastings District Council by NZ Housing Group Ada Ltd, one of numerous development companies created by Napier developers Simon Tremain and Cam Ward. The company bought the properties for $900,000 and $750,000 in June 2022.

The following news story is not referencing the same Kainga Ora (Housing NZ) project, but is another site in Hastings... Residents seek judicial review over council’s housing decisionStuff - Hastings: 10-Feb-2024A group of Hastings residents have filed for judicial review over a council’s “misapplication” of its district plan for a Kāinga Ora housing development. The application relates to a resource consent that was granted in November for 10 dwellings on three properties on Rimu Street. The development was being carried out NZ Housing Group Hastings Ltd., for Kāinga Ora. The proposal would see three two-storey two-bedroom units and two, one-storey two-bedroom units built on the site. It would appear that the residents have a point - How could this level of development within an existing (generally) single-storey residential area not be notified??
