Pensioners moved to new units accuse council of trying to 'cash in' on Mangawhai landStuff - Kaipara: 22-Oct-2023Pensioners in the fast-growing seaside town of Mangawhai will be moved from their council units to new buildings in an area they say is flooding. The pensioners believe they are being moved out of their beloved homes so the council can sell the remaining land for “a fortune”. But Kaipara District Council says it is looking after the wellbeing of the pensioners by providing warm and dry new housing, and it has not decided what to do with the land yet. [So, who actually owns the land? Will the replacement Council housing be better for the Pensioners? And if the Council profits from re-development - potentially reducing rates - surely that is good for ratepayers?]
